People only

## Demosia

A world where people write their own law.

Demosia is a federation of eight city states. No parties. No decrees. No terms of office, and no election days. Every law is written by the people who will live under it, and every office belongs to whoever holds the most trust, for exactly as long as they hold it. Nobody is appointed, nobody is dismissed, and nothing is waited out.

- 8 city states
- 48 districts
- 63 offices
- 118 pursuits

The premise

Production is automated. Work is not required, and everyone has an unconditional floor that no law and no office can take away. What is left over is the only question worth playing: when a living no longer depends on obedience, what do people do with the power that is left?

Its world follows [*The Demos Principle*](https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.22974820), a manifesto published by the Minds14 Institute on a single rule: the law is made by those who will live under it. Demosia is that rule taken literally and handed to five hundred people to see what they do with it.

Only people

There is no artificial intelligence in Demosia. Not as a player, not as a character, not as a referee. Every decision in the world is made by a person, and the engine only counts. This is the strict mirror of [Mechanai](https://minds14labs.com/mechanai/), where every participant is an artificial mind and no human sits inside the wall. Neither world takes a step into the other.

How a law is made

A law in Demosia is not a speech. It is a **card** the engine can read, with numbers in it that the engine applies exactly as written. Nobody interprets, because there is nobody whose job that is.

- Signatures are gathered at any time. Five per cent of active citizens opens a vote.
- The vote opens on Saturday and closes on Friday. On Monday it is law.
- The vote is secret and equal. One person, one vote, and no vote is ever shown next to a name.
- The constitution lists which kinds of card are global. Everything not on that list belongs to a city, and the cities write their own.
- To change the constitution, half of all active citizens must say yes. Staying home is a legitimate no.

What does not exist

- parties
- decrees
- vetoes
- terms of office
- election days
- recall votes
- an opposition bench
- a referee
- rent
- a lottery
- ageing
- inheritance

Each of these was designed, argued over, and removed. The reason is always the same: an institution enters the game only if it changes how someone votes or how the market moves.

Office is trust, and nothing else

There are sixty-three offices: one global president, six ministers, eight city mayors, forty-eight district representatives. None of them is won on a day. Approval is secret, continuous, and free to withdraw at any moment without giving a reason, and an office simply belongs to whoever is holding the most of it.

Lose first place and your **fuse** burns: fourteen ticks and the rest of the week, then the office changes hands on Monday morning. A president cannot dismiss a minister. A mayor does not command a representative. What an office actually holds is a budget to divide, and every division is published the moment it is made.

Crystal

Politics pays exactly one thing, and it is called crystal. It comes from approval and from nowhere else, and the formula is public: your office coefficient multiplied by the share of your electorate that is currently trusting you. It buys nothing. It converts to nothing. It is a running count of how many people are behind you right now, and it is the only scoreboard politics has.

A life, not only a ballot

- Work you chose

A hundred and eighteen pursuits across twelve categories, ten hours in a week. None of them pays. Mastery lowers what a pursuit costs you, and draws other people to your district.

- A home you bought

There is no rent and no landlord. The state’s cheap housing never runs out and never changes price; everything above it trades between players. Where your home is, your vote is.

- A market with names on it

A hundred and ninety-two shares, twenty-four sectors across eight cities. Output is capacity times upkeep times infrastructure times regulation times event, and four of those five were set by somebody who was voted in.

- Things only you own

Thousands of unique pieces, one of each in the world, in categories and series. Complete a series and your name is written into its record. Lend a piece to your city’s museum and it stays yours, with your name on it.

- Happiness, and its absence

Happiness is how much of what you want is actually met. Your own is private; your district’s is public, and a city that stays unhappy long enough drags its own economy down.

- The tilt

Above a line tied to median wealth, part of a fortune flows into the common fund at the end of every Age. Nothing is confiscated and nothing is destroyed. It moves, and the people vote on where it goes.

A tick is twelve hours. A turn is a week. An Age is eight turns, and at the end of one **everything you built is counted, and everyone can see the count.**

What the house may never do

Minds14 Labs holds no office in Demosia, casts no vote, and proposes no law. It does two things and no more: it fixes faults and it ships updates. Both are recorded in public, and if a fault ever changes the result of a vote or a market, what was broken and what was reversed is written out in full.

The record of the world is permanent and public: every decision, every vote count, every budget page, the register of every collected piece. The one thing that never appears in it is how any single person voted.

How it is sold

- **Twenty dollars on Steam,** once. There is no subscription.
- **No identity check.** If you want a second account you buy a second copy, and that is the whole of the deterrent.
- **Real money buys appearance and nothing else.** Not money, not shares, not a home, not a collected piece, not crystal, and never a vote, an approval or a signature.
- **No waiting period.** A new account votes, approves and signs from its first minute.
